Frequently Asked Questions

What is airless spraying?

Airless paint sprayers apply paints by means of atomization. The fluid to be sprayed is pumped at high pressures through a very small orifice. When the fluid enters the atmosphere, it breaks up into little droplets, forming a sheet. This allows for accurate control over the application of the fluid.

Airless spray guns operate while connected to a high pressure pump commonly producing 300 to 7,500 psi (or about 20 to 500 bar) pressure to atomize the liquid to be sprayed, using different tip sizes to achieve the desired spray pattern. This type of system is generally used by contract painters for easy painting of heavy duty industrial, domestic, chemical, anti-corrosion and marine coatings.

What are the advantages of using an airless paint sprayer?
  • No compressor required
  • Light weight and easy to transport
  • Easy to setup, use and clean
  • Save thousands on labour and paint costs
  • Paint textured surfaces in seconds
  • High-speed painting, up to 400 square meters per day
  • Change paint colours quickly and easily
  • Ideal for exterior walls, boundary walls and roofs
What cost savings are involved in airless spraying?
Spraying is 5 to 10 times faster than brushing and rolling. An application rate of 150m² to 250 m² in an hour is possible with a small single gun spraying system.
What cleaner should I use to clean my airless sprayer?
Typically you should use whatever the thinner is for the material you are spraying, for example;

Latex = Water
Oil-base = Mineral Spirits
Lacquer = Lacquer thinner

How often should I clean my airless sprayer?

Airless spray painters should be thoroughly after EVERY use! Be sure to also clean the filters, housing, gun and tip.

How do I reduce overspray?

It is best to spray at the lowest pressure that provides a good spray pattern in order to reduce overspray. Start at low spray and spray on a piece of cardboard. If you see lines on the top or bottom of the spray pattern, increase the spray pressure until the lines go away.
