What the SPX20 is built for
Residential painting — walls, ceilings, and more
The SPX20 handles the coatings that make up the bulk of everyday residential painting work: latex and PVA paints, primers, stains, lacquers, and enamels. Interior walls, ceilings, doors, window frames, garden fences, outbuildings — if it can be rolled or brushed, the SPX20 can spray it faster and with a better finish. Note: the SPX20 is not suited to high-build coatings or textured paints.
45 metres of reach — move less, spray more
With a maximum hose length of 45 metres, you can position the machine once and cover an entire residential site. No dragging the unit from room to room. No tripping over leads. Set it up at the door, run the hose, and get spraying. For a trade just starting out, that kind of efficiency is the difference between a profitable day and a frustrating one.
Adjustable pressure control
Different coatings need different pressure. Thin the pressure down for fine finishes on doors and trim. Open it up for faster coverage on large wall areas. The SPX20’s adjustable pressure controller gives you that control without guesswork — essential when you are still building your technique and getting to know different materials.
Lightweight and easy to move
At 15 kg, the SPX20 is light enough to carry up a flight of stairs, load into a bakkie unassisted, and move around a job site without it becoming the day’s biggest effort. For a sole trader working alone, that matters more than it sounds.
Simple to clean, simple to maintain
The SPX20 is designed to be straightforward. Flush it with water after spraying latex or PVA, mineral spirits for solvent-based coatings, and you are done. Wearing parts — the piston rod, v-packing set, filters, and spray tips — are all available as spares from Sprayair so you are never stuck waiting on a part.
Who should choose the SPX20?
- Painters and decorators just starting out who need a capable machine without the capital outlay of a top-end unit
- Sole traders doing residential repaint and new build work where mains power is available
- Contractors wanting a lightweight backup machine on multi-crew jobs
- DIY enthusiasts taking on serious home improvement projects who want professional results
When you are ready to step up
The SPX20 is the starting point. When your work starts taking you to sites without reliable power, or you need to handle high-build coatings, waterproofing membranes, or anti-corrosion finishes at higher flow rates, the SP6300 petrol airless sprayer is the natural next step in the Sprayair range. Many contractors start on the SPX20 and graduate to the SP6300 as their business grows.
Why buy from Sprayair?
Sprayair supplies professional spray equipment to painting contractors across South Africa. We hold local stock, carry spare parts for the SPX20, and offer technical support when you need it. You are not buying from an overseas warehouse with a three-week shipping window — we are here, and so are your spares.
Questions? Contact us before you order — we will make sure the SPX20 is the right machine for the work you are doing.
What coatings can the SPX20 spray?
The SPX20 handles latex and PVA paints, primers, stains, lacquers, and enamels. These cover the majority of everyday residential and light commercial painting work. The SPX20 is not suitable for high-build coatings or textured paints — these require a higher-capacity machine like the SP6300. If you are unsure whether your coating is compatible, contact us before ordering.
Does the SPX20 need a generator or can I plug it straight in?
The SPX20 is a mains-powered electric sprayer — plug it into a standard power point and you are ready to go. No generator, no fuel, no petrol costs. This makes it ideal for residential work, renovation projects, and any site with reliable mains electricity. If you regularly work on sites without power, the SP6300 petrol sprayer is worth looking at.
What tip size should I use?
The SPX20 supports a maximum tip size of 0.021″. For most latex and PVA wall work, a 0.015″ to 0.019″ tip gives a clean, even fan pattern. The machine’s rated spraying pressure is 140 bar at a 0.019″ tip. Stick within these parameters and you will get consistent results. Always refer to your coating manufacturer’s tip recommendation as a starting point.
How far can the hose reach?
The SPX20 supports a maximum hose length of 45 metres. For most residential sites — even larger double-storey homes — this is enough to position the machine once and cover the full site without moving it. Longer hose runs do reduce pressure at the gun slightly, so stay within the 45m limit for best results.
What does the warranty cover?
The SPX20 carries a 6-month limited warranty covering manufacturing defects under normal working conditions. Wearing parts are excluded from warranty — this includes the piston rod, v-packing set, filters, and spray tips. These are consumable components that wear through normal use and are available as spares from SprayAir. Full warranty terms are available on request.
Are spare parts available locally?
Yes. SprayAir holds spare parts for the SPX20 in South Africa, including the piston rod, v-packing set, manifold filters, and spray tips. You will not be waiting on overseas shipping when something wears out. Contact us for a current parts list or to order spares alongside your machine.
How do I clean the SPX20 after use?
Cleaning is straightforward. For latex and PVA coatings, flush the system with clean water until it runs clear. For solvent-based coatings, flush with the appropriate mineral spirits. Clean the filter, rinse the gun, and store. A proper clean after every use is the single best thing you can do to extend the life of the packings and valves.
How does the SPX20 compare to the SP6300?
The SPX20 is the entry point in the SprayAir range — electric, lightweight, and ideal for residential work where mains power is available. The SP6300 is a Honda-powered petrol machine with more than double the flow rate, higher pressure capacity, dual-gun capability, and the ability to handle heavy coatings like waterproofing, anti-corrosion finishes, and epoxy floor paint. Many contractors start on the SPX20 and move to the SP6300 as their work grows. If you are regularly quoting on larger or more demanding jobs, it is worth looking at the SP6300 from the start.
Is the SPX20 suitable for a sole trader working alone?
Yes — it is well suited to it. At 15 kg it is light enough to carry and move unassisted, the 45m hose means you set up once and cover the site, and the adjustable pressure control means you can adapt to different coatings and surfaces without needing a second pair of hands to manage the machine. It is a practical, capable machine for a one-person operation doing residential work.
